POP3
Email for the Internet!
What
is POP3 email?
Good
question. POP3 stands for Post Office Protocol. The 3 stands for
the current version of the protocol.
POP3
is the most recent version of a standard protocol for receiving
e-mail. POP3 is a client/server protocol in which e-mail is received
and held for you by your Internet server. Periodically, you (or
your client e-mail receiver) check your mail-box on the server
and download any mail.
POP3
mail can be retrieved by most popular e-mail products, such as
Outlook, Outlook Express, Communicator, Eudora amd many more.
Some
ask, Why pay for POP3 email when many offer the service for free?
123m.com's
answer is simple. There are no free lunches. If a mail service
is giving away their mailboxes, they are making money some other
way. Most likely, they are doing this via advertising!
They
advertise within your email, or they resell private information
they collect from you as you use their service.
123m.com
is a private email provider. You pay us a small fee each year which
allows us to keep our facilities state-of-the-art, providing you
with exceptional service. After that, we mind our own business.
123m.com
does not allow spammers to use our service, nor will we ever resell
your email address or private information to any third party. Back

What
is the difference between accessing my email via Web-Access vs.
POP3?
Typically,
when using web-access, your email is stored on our server. You logon
via the internet, read, reply and manage your mail while online.
With
POP3, you typically use an email client, such as Outlook Express,
to download your mail from our server to your PC. It then is the
client that helps you read, reply and manage your email. Back

How
big of a mailbox do I need?
This
depends on how much email you receive, whether or not you receive
many file attachments and whether you will leaving your email on
our server, or downloading it to your PC.
If
you plan on using web-access, you typically need more space unless
you delete older email messages on a frequent basis. When using
a POP3 client and when downloading your email to your PC, then the
question of mailbox size boils down to file attachments. If you
plan to receive many large file attachments, you may need a larger
mailbox to hold these until the next time you download.
Will
I still get junk email with my 123m.com account?
Junk
email is a fact of life. The more you submit your email to various
websites, the more likely it is that you will receive junk email.
123m.com offers free alias accounts that can help you manage this.
Although
your regular email address might be sample@123m.com, 123m.com
can create an alias to this account, such as sample2@123m.com, that
you can use to submit to websites.
Both
emails end up in the same mailbox, but the alias makes it much easier
for you to recognize and delete junk mail.
